About GEM - The Great Neck Episcopal Ministry Established in July, 2010, the Great Neck Episcopal Ministry (GEM) was a collaborative ministry among three churches, All Saints, St. Paul's and St. Joseph's, which are located in Great Neck, New York. (Click here for travel info.) The missioners appointed by Bishop Lawrence C. Provenzano, the Rev. Constance Lorenz, deacon, and the Rev. Joseph S. Pae, priest, share the responsibility of supporting and creating mission strategies for the changing contexts of the Town of Great Neck's communities and the needs of its people. Each church congregation retained its own vestry and identity within the collaborative cluster, while participating fully in the life and witness of this joint ministry. Sunday services are celebrated at All Saints at 10 am in English and by St. Joseph's in Korean at 12 noon (the two churches share the same buildings and grounds in Great Neck). In July, 2011, the congregation that had worshiped at nearby St. Paul’s Church in Great Neck joined with All Saints' congregation. And, St. Paul’s Church facilities were converted to serve as GEM's St. Paul’s Ministry Center. However, in February, 2013, the buildings at St. Paul's were closed so that the redevelopment process could begin. Future plans include providing space for meetings, worship and prayer gatherings, in addition to providing community space for dance, yoga, scouts, and artists. In March, 2013, at a joint mission retreat, both All Saints and St. Joseph's leadership groups agreed to becoming 2 language speaking communities in 1 church with shared finances, with shared leadership, with shared mission and with shared programs (as appropriate based on language). On Sunday, December 8, 2013, a joint GEM Service and joint Annual Meeting was held to elect the new joint All Saints Vestry. GEM is one of the new mission initiatives of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island as the diocese explores new paradigms for "how we do and be church" in a rapidly changing world. Through a renewed sense of mission, new friendships and new faith communities, emerging new lay leadership, and a strong and visible presence in the community, the Great Neck Episcopal Ministry envisions its congregation becoming even more life giving and more self sustaining in the years ahead.
